At first glance, it can look as though I have fewer than 8 pieces on my stash pad, when in fact, there are that many and more. Unless people are playing attention, a little ways into the game, it looks like the traditional setup, with a large number of pieces played.

There are two benefits: Either someone counts hastily, and calls "Icehouse" on me erroneously, or, they have to be careful and scrutinize my stash carefully... which delays their other plays, and allows me to possibly get in several good moves while they are inspecting my stash pad to see if they can tell whether the pieces on my stash are the single or nested ones. Of course, dark stashes are best for this, and it does require the nesting pyramids.
