{"id":872,"date":"2021-10-26T01:28:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-26T06:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/blog-new\/?p=872"},"modified":"2021-10-15T08:11:39","modified_gmt":"2021-10-15T13:11:39","slug":"artisanal-brushwork-four","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/blog-new\/artisanal-brushwork-four\/","title":{"rendered":"Artisanal Brushwork Four"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is the first of a pair of recent replications of images from the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyogo-c.ed.jp\/~rekihaku-bo\/historystation\/digital-exhibitions\/ebanashi\/ebanashi_en.html\">Nanajuichiban Shokunin Uta-awase<\/a> <\/em><\/strong><em>emaki<\/em>, a medieval Japanese scroll that depicts an imaginary poetry competition between artisans and artists of various types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin04-01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin04-01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"240\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Nanjuichiban Biwa Shokunin 01<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This <em>emaki <\/em>(illustrated scroll) depicts a poetry competition (<em>uta-awase<\/em>) among people of various occupations. The competition has 71 rounds, and 142 different kinds of craftspeople (<em>shokunin<\/em>) are depicted, each with their own poem. This image depicts a musician playing a stringed instrument called a \u201c<em>Biwa<\/em>\u201d, the strings are plucked with a fan-shaped plectrum. As he is depicted with a walking stick and <em>geta <\/em>sandals, he is most likely an itinerant musician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin04-02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin04-02.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\"\/><\/a><figcaption> Nanjuichiban Biwa Shokunin 02<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see that I did a little bit of playing with color and composition, particularly the arrangement of the musician&#8217;s <em>accoutrement<\/em>.
