{"id":875,"date":"2021-10-28T01:09:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T06:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/blog-new\/?p=875"},"modified":"2021-10-17T08:46:01","modified_gmt":"2021-10-17T13:46:01","slug":"artisanal-brushwork-five","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/blog-new\/artisanal-brushwork-five\/","title":{"rendered":"Artisanal Brushwork Five"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This is the second of a pair of recent replications of images from the <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hyogo-c.ed.jp\/~rekihaku-bo\/historystation\/digital-exhibitions\/ebanashi\/ebanashi_en.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hyogo-c.ed.jp\/~rekihaku-bo\/historystation\/digital-exhibitions\/ebanashi\/ebanashi_en.html\">Nanajuichiban Shokunin Uta-awase<\/a> <\/em><\/strong><em>emaki<\/em>, a medieval Japanese scroll that depicts an imaginary poetry competition between artisans and artists of various types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin05-01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin05-01.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\"\/><\/a><figcaption> Nanjuichiban Taiko Shokunin 01<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This <em>emaki <\/em>(illustrated scroll) depicts a poetry competition (<em>uta-awase<\/em>) among people of various occupations. The competition has 71 rounds, and 142 different kinds of craftspeople (<em>shokunin<\/em>) are depicted, each with their own poem. This image depicts a musician playing a small drum called a \u201c<em>ko-tzuzumi<\/em>\u201d, The heads of the drum are tensioned with rope. As she is depicted with a walking stick and <em>zori <\/em>sandals, she is most likely an itinerant musician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin05-02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ee0r.com\/sca\/emaki\/shokunin05-02.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\"\/><\/a><figcaption>Nanjuichiban Taiko Shokunin 02<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m happier with the second copy, though realistic depictis of the drum appear to be somewhat beyond me.
