This stash box, later renamed the "Display Box" holds one player's worth of Icehouse pieces, pressed up against the inside of the plexiglas front, hence the "display". There's a keyhole cut in the back so that you could even hang it on a wall if you wished.
"Tip savers", card stock W shapes, hold the pieces in place against the front panel. The three sizes of tip saver are shown in the second picture, in side view so you can see the shape. They also keep the pieces from rattling around. Tip savers were initially invented by Number 12 to keep the resin pieces from rattling around in the black boxes and having their tips snapped off.
