Plexi block with bolts in it

Explanation

Here's an excellent example of a thing that worked its way into my consciousness for no good reason. I found this block in a hallway at Carnegie Mellon while I was at school there, and decided that I didn;t want to know what it was really for, it was wonderful on its own as some kind of statement. The idea that this piece of plastic needed to have its top labelled intrigues me. I guess the bolts are there to attach the block to a backstop of some kind, but what is the block meant to support? Why is it important that one side or end be the top? If you know, please don't tell me. It's art; that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
