Elliott C. "Eeyore" Evans and the
Society for Creative Anachronism


My involvement with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) dates back to 1996. While I'd had many friends in the SCA before that, I had always failed to make time to find out more. This changed when I started dating the woman who is now my wife, who had been attending the Pennsic War for several years. For years after that, my wife and I were "Pennsic Only" people, but over time we have become gradually more involved. As we have become more involved, our needs for clothing and other SCA appropriate objects have increased. As we have made more friends in the SCA, our event attendance and service have increased. We have been members of the society since 2006.

We enjoy the camaraderie that involvement in the SCA brings with it, and the creative push it provides towards sewing, woodworking, cooking, and other crafts. We also enjoy helping out when we can, decreasing the amount of work required of individuals to provide the events we enjoy.

Association within the SCA

Geographically, we live in the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands within the Sylvan Kingdom of Ęthelmearc. The Barony covers the Greater Pittsburgh metropolitan area, and the Kingdom covers Western New York, Northern and Western Pennsylvania, and all of West Virginia.

Socially, we are members of the One Knight Inne household led by our friend Sir Maghnus Cnoic n'An Iora. At Pennsic, our household camps with Clan Yama Kaminari led by Sir Ogami Akira, and we are involved with them throughout the year.

My SCA Persona

My "persona", the medieval person I am attempting to portray, is Ishiyama Gen'tarou Yori'ie, a Japanese nobleman from the Azuchi-Momoyama period. This period is very late in the timeframe covered by the SCA, but it covers a golden period between the the Sengoku period of "Warring States" and the Edo period that most people know as "classical Japan". Azuchi-Momoyama was a relatively stable period where the Japanese lands were united under a single government, and began to make contact with the outside world.
