Explanation

My friend and former Statistics professor David Banks has (in concert with his wife, Lucie) two children: Hannah & Isaac. They're wonderfully precocious and when they were young, they (of course) fought like cats and dogs.

My friends and I would often go over the Banks' house for dinner parties and such, and the evening would somtimes include a game or two. Hannah could kick just about everyone's butt at "Set" (even though most of us are about 15 years older than she), so we'd usually play something else. When Looney Labs came out with Fluxx we played that a bunch and it was a real hit. I'd started making my own cards for the deck, so I decided to make a Banks-themed Fluxx expansion.

What's in the Expansion

The portable document format file banksfluxx.pdf contains six pages. The first page is a positioner page, used to print out the carrier sheet for feeding stickers or cards through the printer. The next two are goals, followed by two keepers, and a new rule. The cards are as follows:

Keeper Hannah
When you play this card, place it face up on the table in front of you.
Keeper Isaac
When you play this card, place it face up on the table in front of you.
Isaac need never be hidden.
Goal Hannah (no Isaac)
When you play this card, place it face up in the center of the table. Discard the previous Goal, if any
If no one has Isaac on the table (visible or hidden), then the player who has Hannah in play wins.
Goal Money and a Banks
When you play this card, place it face up in the center of the table. Discard the previous Goal, if any
The player who has both Money and either Hannah or Isaac on the table wins.
New Rule Isaac Bonus
This rule goes into effect as soon as you play it. Place this card face up in the center of the table. Discard it when a newer rule contradicts it.
If a player has Isaac showing, then during that player’s turn, he or she may view one of another player’s face down keepers, if any.

Note that the designs for these three cards are all based on the designs for first edition Fluxx. I have not updated the designs for the second edition yet, which would be more useful for use with Fluxx Blanxx.

The Process

I used my standard "print on a sticker" method to make these.

  1. Print the positioner sheet onto standard paper.
  2. Coat the positioner area in glue using a 3M PostIt glue stick.
  3. Attach a 3"x5" sticker to the positioner, covering the central rectangle.
  4. Feed the sticker sheet through the printer, printing a card onto the sticker.
  5. Peel the sticker from its backing.
  6. Attach the sticker to a blank Fluxx card, attempting to center the design on the card.
  7. Trim around the edges.
